I find that books teach us about ourselves. They show us a side to our history that history books and official records cannot convey. The hold the souls of nations, families and beliefs. Books help me understand myself and others. I'd love to join this not so secret book club because sharing passions is one of the tenets of a happy life. Plus, I started reading The Bell Jar yesterday- apt!

Hello there, I'm Jenny. I would love to join this book club! I love reading, especially poetry. Sylvia Plath is my all time favorite poet. My favorite books are The Great Gatsby, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Sun Also Rises and The Princess Bride, oh, and the Hobbit. Gosh and so many others. I love Hemingway, Hughes, Cohen, and Fitzgerald. I write poetry and music and read as much as I can. I will definitely read The Bell Jar again! Thanks, Jenny

Hello everyone, hope you’ve all got a copy of the Bell Jar now. I’m thinking that if we aim to finish the book in two weeks - so deadline being the 8th of June - then we can all discuss it then. If you can give me timings of when in the day you can do that would be great and hopefully we can get some progress reports published every few days. I will tag what chapter the writer of each report is so if you’re not that far into it you should try and avoid the tumblr page. We should be reading about one and a half chapters a day so if the report is based on chapters further on I will tag them as spoilers. Happy reading all! Any questions just send me an ask!

There was never a book club to join in person, and my friends usually read different books than I did (aside from Harry Potter - that was one series we all agreed on). So since this our first book reading I think I should set out some guidelines:

Hopefully you can get hold of the book, The Bell Jar, and you can join in!
As you are reading it you can send us progress reports or questions, anything you would like to share.
At the end of the book, perhaps we ought to set a deadline, we shall all convene on this online conference.
At any point you can suggest a book, but at the end of our discussion will be the best time to.

Hi, My name is Katie and I'd love to join the book club. for me books are my own personal escape when things get rough I escape into a story because then I don't have to be me anymore I can be someone deeply in love with some boy who doesn't notice her, the herione on a mission to save the world or someone she loves or the mother involved in some issue with her child. I also have a slight book buying addiction most of my student loan goes on books my bad :) x

Evening all, I'm Morty. Basically, I love reading because of the imagination involved, and I'm a sucker for the witty or weird. I love the narrative voice of Doyle, Dickens and the German Romantic era, but my favourites are sci-fi or fantasy novels. I've always said that as long as there's snappy dialogue, fun characters and an engaging plot, you can forgive sub-par writing. It's a thin line though, balancing between guilty pleasure and total hack. Meyer, Paolini, Brown, I'm looking at you.
